Darrell M. Blocker had a 32-year career in national security and international affairs, serving six presidential administrations. He began his career as an intelligence analyst in the United States Air Force (1987-1990) before joining the CIA's Clandestine Service (1990-2018). His career included multiple overseas assignments in Africa, Southwest Asia, and Europe, and he retired as the most senior black officer in the CIA's Directorate of Operations after holding prominent positions such as deputy director of the Counterterrorism Center, Chief of Africa Division, and Dean of the CIA’s iconic spy training school.

Since 2018, DMB counsels clients ranging from private equity firms to private individuals and from the entertainment industry to foreign governments. Discretion and transparency are the keystones of our practice and there is no issue too small or challenge too daunting for our team of experts to tackle across the globe and business sectors. Darrell’s contributions to public discourse include being a frequent on-air contributor to ABC News’ coverage of world events, and serving as a nonresident fellow at the University of Georgia’s Center for International Trade and Security. His revered TEDx talk, “Listen More, Speak Less: Lessons In Kindness From A CIA Operative,” is one of several speeches and interviews that have amassed tens of thousands of views, and takes an unexpected approach to addressing modern security threats by focusing on the power of kindness and empathy in intelligence work. In it, he shares an anecdote about his experience debriefing a high-value Taliban target and how he used kindness to gain trust and convince this jihadist to collaborate with CIA. He also volunteers with and serves as a board member for Peace4Kids.org (supporting the foster care community), is a member of the leadership council for Black Professionals in International Affairs, is a strategic advisor to Lexpat Global Services, and serves as an Independent Board member for Rendeavour, Africa's largest urban land developer, focusing on building new cities across Sub-Saharan Africa with projects in Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
